Mr. Smith was born at Mouth of Wilson, VA, to the late Howard Smith and Hattie Halsey Smith.

Surviving, one son and spouse, Jesse and Delma Smith of Mouth of Wilson, VA; two daughters and spouse, Dolly Smith of Galax, VA and Judy and Ronald Cummings of Independence, VA; two grandchildren, Holly Cummings and Brian Hill of Independence and Jackie and John Roberts of Woodlawn; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Brian Hill and Avery Roberts; five brothers and spouses, Tommy and Wanda Smith and Ford Smith of Independence, VA, Lavern and Shirley Smith of Mouth of Wilson, VA, Dale Smith of Grassy Creek, NC; Joe Neal and Joyce Smith of Fries, VA; One sister, Amma S. Boone of Mountain City, TN; sisters-in-law, Zella Wagg of Grassy Creek, NC and Pauline & Jack Reedy of Independnece, VA; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Dan Patton of Grand Ledge, Michigan and John Myers of Independence, VA

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, VA; Rev. Ed Patton, Rev. David Osborne and Rev. Randy Morris officiating. Interment in Potato Creek Cemetery, Mouth of Wilson, VA; Military rites conducted by Grayson County VFW 7726.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service.
