John was born at Marion, VA, to the late James Everett Watson and Fannie Jane Adams Watson.

Surviving, Daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Derek Phipps of Independence, VA; one granddaughter, Madelyn Phipps; two brothers and spouse, Brad Watson of Max Meadows, VA and Tony and Dorothy Watson of Christiansburg, VA; one sister, Betty Halsey of Murrells Inlet, SC; Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Graveside service at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Piney Creek Cemetery, Piney Creek, NC; Rev. Rex Hall officiating. There will not ba a visitation at the funeral home,however friends may call at the home of Kimberly and Derek Phipps, 504 Cloverdale Lane, Independence, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 435 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or the charity of choice.
