Alvin L. West, Jr., age 74 of Independence, VA, passed away Tuesday, July 13 at Waddell Nursing Home in Galax, VA.

Alvin was born April 8, 1947, at Havre de Grace, MD to Alvin & Dorothy West.

He served 12 years in the United States Army from 1965 to 1977 and completed three tours of duty in Vietnam.

Surviving are his Wife Margit West; Son Timothy (& Leah) West; Daughter Susanne (& Jon) Martin; two grandchildren Katherine and Jonah; Mother Dorothy West; Brother Roscoe (& Robin) West; Sisters Ella Doris (& Larry) Richardson & Dianne Cassett; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother & sister-in-law Mike and Alma, and two sisters Mary Lou Bowen and Joan Isabel West.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 16, 2021, at Pleasant Home Cemetery in Grassy Creek, NC at 11:00 am. Rev. Jon Martin and Rev. Susanne Martin will officiate.
