Obituary

Benjamin Eugene Bartlett, age 66, passed away early on December 25, 2025. Ben was born and raised in Galax, Virginia, to the late Bobby Bartlett and Joyce Hankley.

Ben grew up on a multi-acre farm, where he learned a multitude of skills and developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. His father taught him how to operate equipment, and his mother taught him how to grow and care for his own food—lessons that stayed with him throughout his life.

Ben worked nearly every blue-collar job imaginable. From bagging groceries at Kroger to working maintenance at Hanes Textile Factory, and even driving a truck that allowed him to travel across the United States, he was never afraid of hard work. He was an incredibly gifted repairman who could fix nearly anything—mechanical, electrical, architectural, or plumbing. If someone had a problem, they called Ben Bartlett, because if anyone could fix it, it was him—and he did it free of charge.

Above all else, Ben will be remembered for his kind and loving heart. Though he faced many struggles throughout his life, at his core he remained the gentle, caring, blue-eyed boy from Galax, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Hackler.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Hyatt Bartlett; three daughters, Jessica Bartlett of the home, Jennifer Cockerham and husband of Galax, Virginia, and Brandi Burkhart and husband of Mount Airy, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Ashley Pickral and husband of Danville, Virginia; one sister, Kimberly Hargrave of Galax, Virginia; two brothers, Tim Bartlett of North Stonington, Connecticut, and Duane Hackler of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 76 Gilley Drive, Fries, Virginia. Visitation with the family will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
