Bert Wesley Spaulding, age 84, formerly of Sparta, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Margate Health and Rehab center in Jefferson, NC. Bert was born in Sparta on June 4, 1938 to the late Vance Monroe and Lura Elizabeth Wolfe Spaulding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Mary LaVonne Halsey Spaulding, his second wife Bettie Baldwin Spaulding, 4 sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Loretta and Bob Helsel, Carolyn and Page Parsons, Edith and Dallas Parsons, and Ellen and Howard Ray. Also preceding, 2 nieces Gaynell Richardson and Tammy Wyatt, a nephew Bobby Helsel, and a great nephew, Todd Helsel.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Campaign. After being honorably discharged, he became a truck driver. Through the years he drove for WLA, ESTES Freight Lines, and others until he retired. Having no children of their own, Bert always had a 4-legged canine friend to spoil and keep him company. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to bluegrass music, and walking the farm, down to the river, always with his buddy by his side.

Mr. Spaulding is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 2:30 PM in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Roten officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:30 PM prior to the funeral. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral service by Grayson County V.F.W. Post #7726.  Committal services will follow at the Zion Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Sparta, NC.
