Bertie Mae Sheets Wilson, age 89, of Independence, Virginia was welcomed into the joy of heaven only 10 months following the death of her beloved husband, Bill.  She passed quietly with her niece and caregiver at her side on Feb. 25, 2023, at the Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Yadkinville, North Carolina.  She was one of eight children born on June 6, 1933, in Smyth County, Virginia, the Sugar Grove community, to Norman Judson and Effie Rae Richardson Sheets.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Sheets and four sisters, Burlie Dolinger, Della Dolinger, Una Gray Hensley and Joy Taylor.

Bertie has been described at the "sweetest and kindest person who ever lived." She lived a simple life devoted to her husband, Bill.  They were  inseparable, and the family greatly rejoices that they have been reunited!   They enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in flowers together.

She is survived by one brother, Avery Sheets of Dobson, NC; one sister, Jannelle and Larry Buffkin of Reedsville, NC; and a niece and caregiver, Darlene and Rev. Gary Miller of Millers Creek, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Comer's Creek Church in Troutdale, VA with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. Tim Barr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
