Obituary

With the arrival of the long-awaited season of springtime, the final touches were completed on the eternal heavenly home of Betty Lee Phipps Davis, age 79, of Galax.  She was welcomed into her place in paradise on Sunday, March 20, 2022, leaving her earthly home to gain her eternal home.  She was born in the Rock Creek Community of Independence, Virginia to Lee Columbus and Bonnie Sue Young Phipps on April 15, 1942.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Preston Phipps, and brother-in-law, Marshall Braylo.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother.  Betty was a dedicated and sincere Christian always putting others first.  Her greatest joy was serving others.  Even in her favorite pastime of crocheting, the results of her needle work were lovingly shared with family, friends, and any visitors. While she loved her family and friends unconditionally, she had an undying love and dedication to her Lord, who has welcomed her home.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, John Wayne Davis of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Ellen Kegley Davis of Independence; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Kelly Davis and James Gray of Galax, Virginia; one sister, Reba Sue Phipps Braylo of Staunton, Virginia; five grandchildren, Erica Nicole and Stephen Brown, Emory Lee and Taylor Davis, Makayla Martin Davis and fiancé, Alex Wright, Sarah Elizabeth Gray, and Leah Catherine Gray; three great-grandchildren, Tanner Michael Brown, Silas Emory Davis, Elizabeth Margaret Davis (and a great- granddaughter arriving in June); two nephews, David Lee Braylo, and Darren Matthew Braylo; one niece, Ann Marshall Braylo; also surviving, a very special friend, Tracy McMickle of Galax, Virginia.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Savannah United Methodist Church with Rev. David Payne and Rev. Ronnie Collins officiating.  The Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the church prior to the service.   Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in the Twin Oaks Community of Sparta, North Carolina.
