Betty Cornett Russell, age 84, of Independence, Virginia died on Thursday evening, January 6, 2022 at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Virginia.  Betty was born to Elmo Thomas and Edna Sue Taylor Cornett on December 22, 1937 in Danville, Virginia.

Betty will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother to her three children.  She was a kind and caring person easily making new friends. She played the autoharp and loved singing in her church and to patients in the nursing home.  She was a favorite substitute teacher winning the devotion of all of her students.

Surviving are her three children, Suzie and Mark Davis of Independence, VA, Debbie and Charles Harrington of Elk Creek, VA, Scott Harrison of Independence, VA; one brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Gay Cornett of Elk Creek, VA; sister-in-law, Delores Cornett of Elk Creek, VA; four grandchildren, Ashley and Jason Busick of Galax, VA, Heather Andrews of Galax, VA, Brandon Harrington of Elk Creek, VA, and Matthew  and Kristin Harrington of Elk Creek, VA; three great-grandchildren, Cohen Turner of Galax, VA, Kelton Harrington of Elk Creek, VA, and Landen Wagoner of Galax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar Cornett.

Funeral services  will be conducted on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Johnson and Stephen Cornett officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the funeral Private burial will follow the Cornett Family Cemetery.
