Betty June Taylor Sawyers, aged 78, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on the morning of November 4, 2025, after a long-fought battle with cancer.

Betty was born on March 21,1947, to Donald McWayne and June Hensdell Taylor. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Stephen Sawyers, her beloved nephews Lance Testerman and Anthony Cox, as well as both of her parents.

Betty leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Mitchell Vaught, and Misty and Mack Cassell. She was "Nannie" to five grandchildren. Lakean Vaught, Crue Cassell, Holden Cassell, Abby Vaught, and Dalton Cassell were the true loves of her life. Betty is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Wanda (Taylor) and Jerry Testerman, as well as her nephews, Keith and Landon Testerman, and her niece, Edwynna Cox Magenbauer. She is survived by special cousins Bonnie Coffin, Billy Key, Melodie Cheek, and Shannon Holdaway, as well as her uncle Jimmy Holdaway and numerous nieces and nephews. Also left behind is her special nurse and friend, Bridget Parnell.

Betty graduated from Independence High School in 1965, and then attended Nuclear Medicine Tech School in Roanoke, VA. Her first marriage was to her high school sweetheart, Bobby Cox. Their 20 year marriage was blessed with their two daughters. Betty then married Stephen Sawyers in 1990, and they were married until he passed away in 2018. Betty worked for many years at Twin County Regional Hospital as a nuclear medicine technologist. Betty was known for her kindness, her laughter, her love of sports, and her brownies. She rarely missed a sporting event that one of her grandchildren was participating in. She loved traveling and watching baseball, football, and basketball on television. She was also an avid reader. She attended Blue Ridge Fellowship Church with her family.

Betty June's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Medi Home Health & Hospice, her caregivers at Senior Home Share, and the wonderful nurses and staff at the Novant Cancer Institute in Mt Airy, NC.

Her family is currently planning a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
