Mrs. Strickland was born October 15, 1934 in West Green, Georgia to Henry Leon Higgs Sr., and Viola Geiger Higgs. She was a bookkeeper for Weinstein, Sturgis, Odom, Groves Law Firm in Charlotte, NC. She and her husband raised three girls in Charlotte NC, then retired to enjoy the mountains in Independence, VA.
Survivors include husband, Jerry L. Strickland of the home; three daughters and son-in-law: Donna Carter of Murfreesboro, TN, Judy R. Strickland of Lewisville, NC, Lisa S. & Blair Underwood of Locust, NC; grandson and wife Jason & MJ Mangrum of Murfreesboro, TN; sister Jessie Pierce of Waycross, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Mountain View Baptist Church in Independence, VA. Betty loved her church friends as family. The Rev. David Osborne will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor her with memorial contributions to the Mountain Valley Hospice House, 243 N. Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC 27055.
