Bobby Charles Delp, age 76, of Independence, VA passed away at his home on Saturday evening, December 28, 2024 following an extended battle with cancer.  He was born in the Comers Rock community on June 10, 1947, to Charles Harvey Delp Jr. and Imogene Roberts Delp.

Bobby will be remembered as an outdoorsman who was often found on the lake enjoying his favorite pastime of fishing.  He equally enjoyed his time hunting in Virginia and North Carolina.  He was a talented woodworker spending many hours in his shop.  He was a lifetime member of the GCMM Club and the Ashe and Alleghany Bass Clubs.  Prior to his retirement he worked at Nautilus for 29 years working his way up to plant manager and many years at Leviton in West Jefferson, NC.  He had earlier served his country as a United States Marine and maintained a Marine mentality throughout his life.  His strong-willed personality was evident in the fishing boat and throughout his life.  He was a fighter, and giving up was not part of his personality.  He was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann Greer Delp, his son, Andy Charles Delp, two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen and Roy Harris of Independence, and Megan and Shane Boyer of Fries, VA; grandchildren, Brooke and Devin Penley, Kaley and Jeremy Wheeler, Issac Wiles and Evie Evans, William Wiles, and J. D. Boyer; great granddaughter, Lilly Wheeler, sisters- in-law Janet Delp of Independence, VA, and Anita Greer of Mouth of Wilson, VA;

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Pine Branch Cemetery in the Fox Creek Community of Mouth of Wilson, VA.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Hunter's Helping Kids 12478 NC Highway 18 North Ennice, NC 28632. The family will be at the home at 275 Bethany Road Independence, VA 24348 where friends may call at any time.
