Carlene Sells Rutherford, age 78, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia passed away at her home on Tuesday morning, September 10, 2024.  She was born in Castlewood, Virginia on November 27, 1945, to the late Wayne and Helen Monk Sells.

Carlene was a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She was dedicated to her profession serving as a nurse in a medical office as well as a private duty nurse.  She was a loving and caring mother.  She found great joy in being "Nana" to her two grandsons.  She loved attending church for many years of her life and most recently attended Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Troutdale, VA.  She was involved in her community and enjoyed quilting and attending the Whitetop Senior Center.  In her spare time, she enjoyed Bluegrass music and was an avid and determined rook player.  She was best friend and best buddy to her sister, Janice.  Carlene was loved by everybody, and everybody loved Carlene.  Her absence has left a void in the hearts of all that knew her.

She is survived by one daughter, Jessie Rutherford Laing (Chris) of Butler, TN; one son, Jack Rutherford (Vanessa) of Rural Retreat, VA; sister, Janice Wood (Buster) of Mouth of Wilson, VA; one brother, Tommy Sells (Teresa) of Mouth of Wilson, VA; two grandsons, C.J. Laing and A. J. Laing both of Butler, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church with the Pastor Tim Boyette officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service.  Private burial will follow in the Samuel Pugh Cemetery in Mouth of Wilson.
