Carol Lee Sutherland, age 66, a lifelong resident of Comers Rock, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center, on January 12, 2022.  She was born in Elk Creek on April 29, 1955, to the late J.C. and Betty Jo "Jody" Sutherland.

Carol Lee began working as a teller at Grayson National Bank and retired as branch manager from Skyline National Bank after 36 years.  She was highly involved in and a beloved member of the Elk Creek community.  She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and most recently served as treasurer.  She was a member of the Elk Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, having served as president for many years. Her favorite role was being Maw-Maw to her grandchildren, going on golf cart rides, cooking, and playing kickball in the backyard.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart, lifelong friend, and husband of 47 years, Mark Sutherland of Comers Rock, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Chad and Jennifer Sutherland, also of Comers Rock; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and David George, of Westfield, North Carolina; three grandchildren Kyser George, Myla George and Mitchell Sutherland; special father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Betty Sutherland; and her miniature poodle Chloe.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15th, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pam Sutherland and Pastor Derick Burton officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Masks are required and will be available.
