Obituary

Cathern Marie Morton Reeves, age 91, of Independence, VA passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, at her home of 74 years on Peach Bottom Creek. In addition to her parents and siblings she is preceded in death by her husband E.F. "Sonny" Reeves and infant son, James Kelly Reeves.

Cathern was known and loved by many. She was described as having a wealth of knowledge about a broad range of subjects including antiques, glassware, gardening, birds, sewing, basket weaving, child raising, and God loving.  She was hands down the best sour dough bread and rolls baker ever! Her humble spirit made her easily approachable as she shared her lifetime of experiences.

She and Sonny raised their four children Mack, Butch, Joe (Karen) and Mary Lucy (Bob). They were incredibly active grandparents to Chad (Heather), Erika, Eli (Angel), Taylor and Holley (Tanner). Their adventures included everything from nighttime lantern walks and daily horseback rides in the yard to tea parties and everything in between.

When Bob joined the family, he brought Bobby (Danielle), Lauren, David (Becky)and their children Riley, Bo, Harlin, June, and Miller.

When Karen joined the family she brought Christine (Alex), and Dan (Sarah) then Cat finally had the "red headed" child she always wanted.

They were also blessed to be great grandparents to Damie, Nathaniel, Nalah, Susan, Riley, Bo, Harlin, June and Miller. Even in their later years they found meaningful ways to connect across the years with these children.

Cat spent many years working alongside her husband at "Sonny's Texaco" where they sold everything anyone could possibly need. This duo had many adventures throughout the years with a large group of lifelong friends. They were fortunate to spend many winters in Florida where they fished, rode bicycles, and made "Little Lucy" fishing lures.

Cathern was an impeccable homemaker, gardener, wife, and mother. She was a beloved aunt that always listened, advised, and had a few tricks up her sleeve. She was a lifelong member of Independence First United Methodist Church where she was active in all parts of the church.

She was a trustworthy friend to many, and most friends became family to her.

She will be missed by all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Independence First United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with Rev. Eli Carrico officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery, Independence, VA.
