Cecil Greer

Cecil Ralph Greer, age 92, of the Rugby Community in Mouth of Wilson, VA, passed away at his home surrounded by three generations of his loving family. He was born in the Green Cove Community of Washington County, Virginia on May 10, 1934, to Fred and Mary Huffman Greer.

Cecil loved the outdoors whether being in his garden, hunting in the woods or fishing on the creek banks. As a farmer, he was skilled as everything from tobacco farming to hog slaughtering. In his early years he worked in mushroom houses and bridge construction in Pennsylvania to help support his family back home. He was an employee of Kraft Corporation where he served in many capacities. He will be remembered as a master storyteller able to hold attention of all generations. He was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church.

Following the death of his wife, Carol, in 2017, he befriended his four-legged canine companion, “Meadow” which became a great source of comfort to him.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Carol Edith McGrady, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Roark; five brothers and one sister.

He is survived by four sons, Cecil and Juanita Greer of Mouth of Wilson, VA, J.B. and Deborah Greer of Woodlawn, VA, James and Laura Greer of Chilhowie, VA, Anthony and Heather Greer of Mouth of Wilson, VA; one daughter, Charlotte and Richard Deuterman of Mouth of Wilson; sisters, Linda Cole, Lucy Hubbard, Shelby Rupard, Connie Mae Greer, and Alma Jean Pennington; one brother, Roy Greer; thirteen grandchildren, Crystal and William Hawks, Cassandra and Aaron Grubb, Lauren and Adam Jones, Mikey and Kayla Greer, Chad and Ashley Greer, Cody and Jeremy Moss, Seth and Morgan Greer, T. J. and Crystal Greer, Kimberly and Scott Olinger, Kacie and Matt Sebastian, Paul Roark, Macie and Hunter Ingram, Brandon Dolinger, and Noah Anthony Greer; twenty five great grandchildren and one on the way; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Guy Testerman and Rev. Tim Boyette officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery in Rugby, VA.

The family requests that everyone please pray for all of their family during this difficult time.
