Clara Jean Pinion, age 78, of Independence, VA passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital.  She was born on November 15, 1946, in the Elk Creek Community of Grayson County to Joseph Wayne and Addie Hudson Pinion.  She attended school in Elk Creek and graduated from Independence High School.  She worked for several years as a seamstress at Grayson Garment Factory in Independence, VA.  She loved to garden and was an excellent cook.  Many in her family recall she was an extraordinary biscuit baker.  She loved making apple butter and attending Salem Church.  She will be best remembered as a dedicated caregiver to her parents.

She is survived by one brother, Jack and Wanda Pinion of Elk Creek, VA; four sisters, Bessie Hash of Galax, VA, Nancy Wright of Independence, VA, Louise Grubb of Galax, VA, and Ann Stuart of Fries, VA.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Polly Grubb.

Memorial  service will conducted on Saturday Oct. 18, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Salem Church with Tim Brown officiating.
