Clinton Eugene Spears, 81, of Fries, VA passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Grayson Rehab and Nursing Center in Independence.  Mr. Spears was born on May 5, 1944, in Fries, Virginia to Harley Estel and Laura Belle Wilson Spears.  He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.  Mr. Spears will be remembered as a hard worker who enjoyed providing for his family.  He was one always willing to offer a helping hand to anybody.  He loved hunting and fishing and had a soft spot in his heart for all animals.  Many fortunate stray animals found their way to his doorstep discovering a "forever" home. His death has been a great loss to his family and to his community, but our loss is Heaven's gain.

He is survived by his wife, Betty E. Spears of the home; sons, Jeff and Wendy Merilic of Independence, VA and Tyrone and Misty Merilic of Fort Chiswell, VA; brother, Allen Ray Spears of Fries, VA; sister, Betty Cox of Fries, VA; granddaughter, Brandi Merilic and fiance, William Hicks of Fort Chiswell, VA; great grandson, Wyatt Lee Hicks of Fort Chiswell (Born Aug. 13, 2025):three nephews, J. D. Horton, Scotty Horton, and Shawn Meeks also survive.

All services will be private with a public celebration of life service held in the near future.  Announcements of this service will be made available at this website.
