Obituary

Connie Sue Stoots Anders, age, 68 of the Rugby Community of Mouth of Wilson, VA passed away at her home on Wednesday evening, September 6, 2023.  She was born in Grayson County on May 13, 1954, to Roby Sydney and Mary Ola Aker Stoots.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Chip Haydt; her brother, Don Stoots; her beloved mother-in-law, Grace Anders; four infant children, Justin, Julie, Joshua, and Jack.

Connie was a girl of the mountains, and the mountains provided a life-long home and sanctuary for her and her cats! During the family annual beach vacation, she started longing for her mountains (and cats) after a few days and always seemed to breathe a little easier upon first sight of the mountains returning home. Connie was forever full of laughter and humor.  Her light-hearted spirit was infectious, and her presence was always a welcomed addition to any room.  Her chief culinary triumph included boiled water at the time of her marriage, 52 years ago.  However, after serving a culinary apprenticeship under her husband and her mother-in-law, she eventually became an aspiring and celebrated cook.  Connie was the "Queen of Sarcasm," a title which she retained and exhibited until her final breath.  When ask how she was doing, her response was always the same; "I'm wonderful!"  Even in recent weeks from the confines of a hospital bed, she was able to look beyond her own predicament and let her family and friends know that she was "wonderful."   Connie will be remembered as a dedicated friend.  She loved unconditionally, without reservation.  She was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sparta, NC.  She was devoted to all her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jackie Anders of the home; two daughters, Michelle Haydt of Piney Creek, NC and Jaclyn Anders of Mouth of Wilson, VA.  She was a much-beloved "Nana" to five grandchildren, Chelsea, Michael, Matthew, Faith, and Amelia and a great-granddaughter, Violeta.  She is also survived by three brothers, Ron Stoots of Fries, VA, Dan and Elaine Stoots of Huntsville, Alabama, Junior and Linda Stoots of Woodlawn, VA; sister, Brenda Higgins of Hillsville, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services to honor her life will be held on September 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 2873 US Highway 21 Sparta, NC 28675.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening, September 29, 2023, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA from 6:00-8:00 PM.

While flowers are appreciated, memorial contributions may be made to the Rugby Rescue Squad 53 Rugby Road Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363.  Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA is serving the Anders family.
