Curtis Allen Jennings, age 73, of Independence, Virginia departed this life and entered his heavenly home on March 13, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born on September 21, 1950 to the Reverend Fred and Geneva Jennings.

Born and reared in the footprint of a Christian home,

Curtis lived his life as an example of the love and compassion of Christ. His unwavering faith in God, family, and community is evident in the lives he touched and legacy that will endure countless generations. Like the threads of a quilt, the kindness and selflessness that he demonstrated will forever hold together the bonds of family and friendship left behind.

In alignment with his pride in service, Curtis was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. His love of country and community was also evident in his tireless dedication to the growth and success of Grayson National Bank. His years of service, both in the military and within the confines of the small banking community, are ever present in those he helped and encouraged during his tenure.

As a man of God, Curtis reflected the teachings of Christ. His gentle spirit and kind nature were hallmarks of his close relationship with the Lord. He lived by example and treated all those he encountered with the utmost respect and empathy. As a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Elk Creek, Virginia, Curtis let the light of God shine through him, and the impact he made will forever be felt by those who had the pleasure of knowing him; forever weaving his precious memory into the fabric of his mountain home.

Curtis loved deeply and completely. There is no greater example of this than the love he had for his family. Curtis was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The sparkle in his eye and the joy in his soul sprouted from the unconditional love he both gave and received from those closest to his heart. Having married the love of his life 40 years ago, Curtis and his beloved wife Barbara built a life together that reflected the influence of his own Godly childhood home. Curtis and Barbara shared a love that was unlike any other.  Their dedication to each other was evident in all stages of their union. As Curtis took his last earthly breath, his Barbara was by his side, guiding him into eternal glory.

As the light of God shined through him, so did the great love and pride of being a father. Curtis shared a special bond with his beloved daughter, Shelley. In all seasons of life, he and Shelley shared an unbreakable connection that will continue to endure throughout the span of time. As a grandfather, Curtis surrounded his precious grandsons, Tyler and Adam, with the unconditional love and support that only a grandfather can bestow. His heart was most full when he was in company of his boys, be that at a baseball game or surrounding the family dinner table. Curtis relished in seeing his grandsons grow into adulthood and was proud beyond measure of the men they have become. In August of 2023, God blessed the entire family with the birth of Adalynne Anne. Becoming a great-grandfather was the defining moment of a life lived wrapped in the quilt of God's love.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Fred Jennings.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Barbara Jennings of the home; daughter Shelley and son-in-law Mark Carrico of Independence, Virginia; mother Geneva Jennings of Galax, Virginia; sister Sandra and brother-in-law Bill Winters of Roanoke, Virginia; brother David and sister-in-law Ellen Jennings of Independence, Virginia; grandchildren: Tyler and Katherine Carrico of Wytheville, Virginia; Adam Carrico and fiance Marley Sterling of Marion, Virginia; and great-granddaughter Adalynne Anne Carrico of Wytheville, Virginia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Curtis is also survived by fur babies Katie June, Mary Lily, and Libby, as well as special friend Dennis Eller.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Doug Hawks, Elder Greg Hawks, and Reverend Jeremy Farley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial with military honors by Grayson VFW Post #7726 and the United States Marines will follow in the Crab Creek Cemetery in Ennice, North Carolina.
