Danny Allen Cox, age 70, of Independence, VA passed away at his home on April 3, 2024. He was born in Grayson County on August 26th, 1953, to the late Larkin and Bertha Boyden Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Armstrong, Jr., Marshall Armstrong, and Mason Cox; sister, Blondie Bonds; sister-in-law, Evangeline Cox; two brothers-in-law, Belford Phipps, Jr. and Eric Bonds. Danny attended school in Independence through the third grade and continued his education in home schooling. Danny will be remembered as a hard worker who began his working career on the Earnest Phipps farm. Danny was forced to quit the farm work to care for his father. He later began work at Vaughan Bassett until the factory closed in 2008. Danny was a much loved and respected member of his community. He never met a stranger. He was always willing to offer a helping hand to anybody in need. He loved spending time with his family and his friends.
He leaves to cherish his amazing memory two brothers, Rainey Cox of Marion, VA and Jeffery Cox of Independence, VA; sisters, Linda Parsons of Dayton, Ohio, Elaine and James Lee of Sugar Grove, VA; Paris Phipps of Independence, VA; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Walter Hash, Sammy Halsey, Homer Hash, and Danny Hash also survive. The family wishes to recognize two special nieces and caregivers, Amy Cox Chavez and Bertina Lundy. The care, love, and support they have offered to Danny throughout his sickness, has been an inspiration to the family as well as to the community.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the funeral at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Elder Daley McKinney, Bishop Bergie Penn, and Bishop Charles Millner, eulogist, will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Independence, VA.
