Mr. Darnell was born at Fries, VA to Johnson Darnell and Rose Johnson Darnell. He is also predeceased by his wife Alice Charlene Darnell.

Surviving, Three daughters and spouses, Mary and Elbert Gravely of Fries, VA, Teresa and David Edwards of Independence, VA and Linda and Mark Nuckolls of Independence, VA; one son, Michael Darnell of Elk Creek, VA; Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Bourne of Fries, VA; a niece, Tildy Bourne

Graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:30 P.M. in Forest Cemetery, Elk Creek, VA. Rev. Jeff Pickett will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Mountain Valley Hospice and Pallative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mountain Airy, NC 27030 and Fries Fire and Rescue Squad, 832 E. main Street, Fries, VA 24330

There will not be a visitation at the funeral home
