January 25, 1938 — January 28, 2022
On the winter morning of January 25, 1938, David Edward Osborne was born in Independence, Virginia on the family farm to Willie Earl and Byrd Mae Osborne. On Friday, January 28, 2022, three days following his 84 th birthday, he died on the same family farm. He was the last remaining child, surviving all of his twelve brothers and sisters. Though he only completed an 8 th grade education, he was unrivaled in his ability for dealing with numbers and could figure a stand of timber with precision. He will be remembered as a hard-working man. He was an excellent mechanic and was well versed in all aspects of the sawmill industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Judy Blevins Osborne; seven sisters, Marilyn Cox, Willie Cox, Mary J. Parkhill, Edith Delp, Mable Whitaker, Ava Ramey and Evelyn Osborne; five brothers, Bayne Osborne, Charles Osborne, Ralph Osborne, Frank Osborne, and Robert Osborne.
He is survived by his daughter, known to him as "the brat", Sharon and Darrell Skoff of Independence, Virginia. He is also survived by two special friends, Terry Hall, whose many breakfast meals and car outings with David will always be remembered and Jason Testerman, who fulfilled the role of grandson by helping David complete many task about the farm.
A memorial service for family and friends will be conducted on April 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at his daughter's home in Independence with Mr. Harold Osborne officiating. His life and legacy will be remembered and celebrated during this service at the dedication of a memorial garden at the family farm in Independence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to one of the following: Independence Rescue Squad PO Box 607 Independence, Virginia 24348 or to the Independence Fire Department PO Box 588 Independence, Virginia 24348 or to the David and Judy Osborne Memorial Garden C/O Sharon Osborne Skoff 956 Penn Ford Lane Independence, Virginia 24348.
The family wishes to express their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Twin County Hospice for their remarkable care and assistant offered to them in the past few months.
