David Michael "Squirrel" Darnell, age 48, of Elk Creek, Virginia died at his home on January 29, 2021.  He was born on June 16, 1972 in Galax, Virginia to David William and Alice Charlene Sexton Darnell.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his four children, David and April Poole of Woodlawn, Virginia, Alison and Alex Rampelotto of Italy, Brandi Darnell of Galax, Virginia, and Sarah Montgomery-Darnell of Galax, Virginia; former spouse and special friend, Alisha Darnell of Austinville, Virginia; three sisters, Mary and Elbert Gravely of Fries, Virginia, Teresa and David Edwards of Independence, Virginia, Linda and Mark Nuckolls of Independence, Virginia; a niece and several nephews also survive.

He was also survived by many friends and neighbors who are too numerous to mention.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 PM at the Forest Cemetery in Elk Creek, Virginia.  The Rev. Doug Stuart will officiate. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
