Dr. David B. Todd, age of 74, Independence, VA passed away on September 26, 2024. He was born on January 11th, 1950 in Roanoke, VA to the late Beale and Sally Todd. As a child, he loved riding horses with his dad and siblings, participating in horse shows, and going "to the mountain" with his grandfather Bays Todd. He graduated from Virginia Tech in Dairy Science, and the University of Georgia with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, he moved to Charlotte, NC and became owner of the Charlotte Veterinary Clinic. For 42 years, he cared for several generations of families' pets in the Charlotte area, and upon retirement received recognition for his service to the Matthews Police Department K9 unit. In 2018, he moved back to his farm in the Saddle Creek Community. David loved his horses, Buck Mountain, and his family.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Todd of Charlotte, NC; his daughter Amanda (Steve Richards) Todd of Swansboro, NC; his son Matthew (Jenny) Todd of Statesville, NC; two grandsons Mason and Hayden Todd of Statesville, NC; his brother Gary (Janet) Todd of Abingdon, VA; sister Nancy (Dale) Wayne of Wilkesboro, NC; several cousins, nieces, a nephew, and his Quarter Horse Stallion Bee, two mares, and six geldings.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home, with Amanda Todd officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow with Masonic Rites at the Independence Cemetery with Pastor Bob Cheeks.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses at Medi-Home Health & Hospice in Jefferson, and at Forest Ridge. Thanks also to Will Page, Thomas Goad, Amanda Kimbrell, Gerica Browning, neighbors, friends, and others who enabled him to live a little longer on the farm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Medi Home Health & Hospice 405 South Jefferson Ave. West Jefferson, NC 28694, or to the National Police Dog Foundation Active 2390-C Las Posas Rd.
