Obituary

Dawn Rae Jones Jennings, age, 86 of Independence, VA passed away at the home of her son in Advance, NC and was welcomed into her heavenly home on Friday morning, September 15, 2023. She was born in Alleghany County on July 27, 1937, to Neal and Pauline Richardson Jones.  Dawn lived a life portrayed by King Lemuel in Proverbs 31, "who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies." (Proverbs 31:10). Dawn lived a life of service.  She was most happy when doing for others.  She was a talented alto singer and enjoyed music, especially singing hymns.  She found great joy in serving her church and was able to fulfill her great love of children as serving as youth leader.  She was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union and served as the Acteens Group Leader at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  In recent years she was an active member at Living by Faith and attended faithfully as long as her health permitted.  Dawn was an active and loyal supporter of Gideons International and was often found handing out Bibles at her local grocery market. She enjoyed bus trips and being with her friends.  She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Charles Robert "Bobby" Jennings and most loving mother to her son.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Stason and Becky Jennings of Advance, NC; brother, John Paul Jones of Scottsville, NC; sisters-in-law, Betty and Jimmy Walls of Independence, Donna Pearl James and Wanda Jones both of Sparta, NC, Geneva Jennings of Independence, and Dorothy Phipps Jones; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derek Cowan officiating.  Dawn will lie in state from 10:00-11:00 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International Processing Center P.O. Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251.  Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is serving the Jennings family.
