Dennis Edward Cornett, age 62 of Galax, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, NC.  He was born June 20, 1957 in Greensboro, NC to Prince and Nellie Hamrick Cornett.  He was preceded in death by his birth parents and his adoptive parents, Howard and Ella Mae Bobbitt, brother, Donald Cornett and a sister, Judy Cornett.

He is survived by his companion, Jackie Vaughn of Galax, Virginia; daughter, Denise and Jason Billings of Independence, Virginia; three grandchildren, Danielle Jones, Hunter Cornett, and Dakota Cornett of Independence; step–grandson, Gage Billings of Independence; two sisters,  Mary Alice and Ricky Patrick of Port Deposit, Maryland and Nancy and Gary Gaultney of Roaring River, North Carolina; two brothers  J. B. and Barbara Cornett of Cleveland, North Carolina and John and Margie Bobbitt of Independence, Virginia; sister-in-law, Linda Cornett of Independence, Virginia.

Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Beech Grove Baptist Church in Baywood, Virginia.  The pastor, Rev. Tom Burcham will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour preceding the funeral service at the church.
