Derek Eugene Bridgeman, age 39, of Mouth of Wilson, VA, passed away at his home on September 15, 2024. He was born on July 24, 1985, in Sparta, NC to the late Dennis and Judy Bridgeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Jean Wagg; his paternal grandparents, French and Barbara Harrington; his Aunt Joyce Wagg; and Uncles Harry Wallace and James Bridgeman.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Dylan Bridgeman of San Antonio, TX; his fiancée, Alicia Miller, along with her daughter, Tiera of Mouth of Wilson, VA; Derek is also survived one sister, Tanya Sherwood, and her husband, Arthur of Mouth of Wilson, VA; niece, Nicole Sherwood of Mouth of Wilson, VA; nephew, Nathan Sherwood of Troutdale, VA; three aunts, Jackie Wagg of Mouth of  Wilson, VA, Jannie Wallace of Mocksville, NC, and Ladecka Brady and husband Bruce of Indiana.

Derek was an avid fan of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, and his love for basketball was undeniable. In his younger years, he earned a basketball scholarship to Louisburg College. He also, for some time, was a dedicated and hardworking employee of Vannoy Construction in Jefferson, NC. More than anything, Derek was a dedicated father, always making sure Dylan was well-loved and provided for his many needs.  He loved hunting and gardening, and spending time outdoors. Derek was especially talented in the art of landscaping and construction. His meticulous nature was evident in everything he did. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who crossed his path.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Reins - Sturdivant Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Warner Eller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery in the Rugby Community.

Memorials may be made to the Rugby Rescue Squad or to an organization of the donors choice in memory of Derek.
