Obituary

Life-long resident of the Grassy Creek Community, Dillard Ray Weaver, age 76, died at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson, North Carolina on August 11, 2022.  He was born to Arthur and Fannie Blevins Weaver on March 3, 1946.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Walters Weaver on July 13, 2022.  While his family greatly mourns his passing, they are greatly comforted in knowing the separation of Jean and Dillard was brief.  Dillard was employed by the Ashe County School System for 25 years.  He served as custodian at Healing Springs Elementary and upon its closing, moved to Mountain View Elementary School where he served until his retirement.  He was a farmer at heart!  He best enjoyed his time on his tractor working in the tobacco, cabbage, and potato fields.  He will be remembered for his prize potatoes.  He often joked in saying "if a 50 pound bag of potatoes has more than 20 potatoes in it, somebody doesn't know how to grow potatoes."  Dillard lived out a creed of simplicity and honesty.  His word was good and his handshake was a seal.  Dillard enjoyed  reflecting upon the past and recounting the days gone by. He was a member of the Senter Primitive Baptist Church where he attended faithfully as long as his health permitted.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four brothers, Clayborn, Toby, George and Jack Weaver; five sisters, Mae Caley, Mattie Waddell, Mary Blevins, Hazel Poole.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sylvia and Brian Waight of Mt. Airy, NC and Edna Mae Weaver of North Wilkesboro, NC; a grandson, in whom he took so much pride, Justin and Natalie Waight of Mt. Airy, NC, and one sister, Maxine and Garner Blevins of Jefferson,  NC.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 19, at 2:00 PM at the Senter Primitive Baptist Church in Crumpler, NC with the Pastor, Elder John Jackson and Elder Robert Shatley officiating.  Burial and committal service will follow in the Senter Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Senter Church Cemetery fund c/o John and Diane Caldwell 482 Old Ridge Road Crumpler, NC 28617.
