Donald Clip
Campbell
November 21, 1948 — December 24, 2025
Donald "Donnie" Clip Campbell, 77, of Grassy Creek (Helton Community), passed away at home on December 24, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born in Grassy Creek on November 21, 1948, to Clip and Nell Tester Campbell. He was a graduate of Northwest Ashe High School having attended Virginia Carolina High School until it was destroyed by fire. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served until he was honorably discharged from his duties. Donnie will be remembered for his quiet and humble demeanor. He was a hard-working man who was a master at handling a tractor. He loved being outside whether it was working in his garden, fishing along the creek or hunting in the woods. He was a bow hunter who displayed great skill with a bow. Donnie was very dedicated to his family. He had an unwavering love for his wife, his two girls and his grandson. Donnie was a man of great faith who was always willing to share his faith. He is best described by his daughter who wrote: "my dad was a quiet man who would turn the other cheek to save an argument, he was generous and gave what he had or didn't have if some needed it. He was honest to a fault; he would tell you the truth even if it hurt. He loved us girls. Even though others may not have seen it, he had a great sense of humor. He loved old cartoons like Tom and Jerry and would laugh until he had tears in his eyes. He could handle a tractor better than anybody and worked hard even when he wasn't able." In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers Bobby and Charles Campbell, and sisters Nay Dean Baldwin, Ruth Waddell, and Martha Blevins.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Thompson Campbell of the home, two daughters, Kim and Keith Jordan of Lansing, NC and Christy Taylor of West Jefferson; one grandson, Matthew Blevins; father-in-law, Denver Thompson of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
