Donald Kent Compton, age 85, of the Cabin Creek Community of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson, NC.  He was born in Ceres, Virginia on October 17, 1940, to William and Margaret Stowers Compton.  Following his high school graduation, he enrolled in the United States Air Force and later served with the 55th Security Forces Squadron (SFS) at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.  Following his military service he joined the police force of Fairfax County, Virginia where he served until his retirement.  He was married to Sharon Lee Keys in 1967.  Following their retirement, they relocated to Sharon's ancestral grounds, the Cabin Creek Community, where they were quickly absorbed into many aspects of the area including membership into the Faith Lutheran Church.  Don has been described as "just a good boy."  He was much loved and respected in his community.  He always lived in the shadows of humility and was most content walking the banks of cabin creek accompanied by an ever-present dog.  Those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence were often gifted a walking stick he had fashioned from the local woods.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Richard Compton, Robert Compton, Ted Compton, Dean Compton; two sisters, Elizabeth Brooks and Billie Jo Tackish.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon Keys Compton of the home; three sisters, Carroll Young of Oak Harbor, Washington, Nancy Simmons of Roanoke, VA, and Karen Sexton of Abingdon, VA; also surviving are a host of friends and neighbors as well as Branch and Blue.

A celebration of life will be conducted on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the home with Rev. Dr. Joseph Shumate officiating.  Friends and family are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
