Born on January 29, 1945, Dorothy lived her entire life in the Fox Creek community. She loved to sew, garden, and farm. She worked side-by-side with her husband and family raising tobacco, beef cattle and extraordinary vegetable gardens. A retired instructional aide in the Grayson County Virginia school system, Dorothy was loved by the children and school faculty she supported. Dorothy was known for many years for her delicious sourdough bread and homemade jelly, which she joyfully shared with friends, family and neighbors. She loved to make gifts for her loved ones including Christmas tree skirts. Those who were blessed to be gifted one, know the hours of love she sewed into every single one. Dorothy was also a long-time member of Pine Branch Baptist Church, where she loved and was loved by her small church family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Lee Hash and her parents, Eldridge and Pauline Anderson. She is survived by her children, Kristal (Chris) Herrington of Charleston, SC and Anthony (Sarah) Hash of Troutdale, VA. She was so very proud of her five grandsons, Eli Jones of Charleston, SC, Mason & Chase Hash of Troutdale, VA, Hunter Herrington of Charleston, SC and Garrett Herrington of Galax, VA. Dorothy is also survived by her sister who was her best friend and loving caregiver, Barbara Young of Troutdale, VA and niece, Pam Young (Dux) of Hamilton, VA. She was also blessed with special friends, Norma Osborne, DeEtte Fine and Hazel Jones.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at the Reins Sturdivant funeral home chapel on Saturday, June 14th. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. and the burial at Pine Branch cemetery.
