Earl Dean Hackler, aged 87, passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2025. He was born on June 17, 1938, in Elk Creek, Virginia, to Rev. Dr. John W. Hackler and Margaret Kinzer Hackler.
Earl Dean is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Ruth Cole Hackler; his children, Anita Love of Galax, DeAnna Hash and husband Michael of Independence, and Michael Hackler and wife Elaine of Fries. He was a proud grandfather to Philip Hash and wife Carolyn of Christiansburg, Va., Erick Love and wife Eden of Galax, Scarlett Hopkins and husband Matthew of Bristol, Va., and Dylan Hackler and wife Kayla of Galax, and a loving great-grandfather to Cali Love, Leyla Love, Stetson Hackler, Sterling Hackler, Lucas Hopkins, Brooklyn Hopkins, Christian Hash, Tennyson Hash, and Ellis Hash, as well as a cherished great-great-grandfather to Ken'draius.
He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gayle and Nancy Cole of Altavista, Va., Chester and Beverly Cole of Marion, Va., and Gary and Becky Cole of Mount Airy, N.C., along with several nieces and nephews.
Earl Dean worked as a mechanic for over 45 years, known for his skill, dedication, and hard work. Outside of his profession, he found great joy in the outdoors, especially trapping, hunting, and fishing. His deep love of nature and his steady, kind spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
He attended Springfield Church and Grace Baptist Church for many years, where he was a faithful member and friend to many.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, November 6th, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Rein-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia, followed by a funeral service in the chapel. Interment will follow at the Hackler Cemetery.
