Edgar Lynn (Chip)  Painter, age 81, of Independence, VA passed away September 28 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.  Chip was born August 8, 1942 to the late David and Frances Painter.  Having received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Milligan College, he served as a school teacher and also spent time working in the auction business and real estate.  Chip was an avid Virginia Tech Hokies fan and also pulled for the Florida Gators where his son attended.  He enjoyed nature walks admiring the beautiful country scenery.  His pride and joy were his beloved pets and he loved watching classic westerns on television.
In addition to his parents, Chip was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Painter.  He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Painter of Independence; a son, David Painter of Interlachen, FL; his caregiver, Stacy Saunders : a special adopted grandson, Tyson also of Independence.
A private graveside service is being planned for immediate family and invited friends at a date to be determined.
