Edward Dale Poe, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on October 22, 2024, at the age of 80 in Christiansburg, VA.
Born on October 23, 1943, in Elk Creek, VA, Edward was the son of Dale and Retha Elliott Poe, brother to Janice Poe Conway and grandson to Milliard and Clemmie Elliott, who preceded him in death. He was raised in Elk Creek and graduated from Independence High School.
Edward enjoyed a fulfilling career with UPS, retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. Known as "Ed" by friends and family, he was a beloved figure who deeply cared for his loved ones and was always mindful of their well-being. He had a passion for music, especially playing the guitar, and bluegrass, and found great joy when he was on the golf course. His favorite days were spent under blue skies on green fairways, or playing his guitar and sharing stories and laughter with those he held dear.
Beyond his career and his love for bluegrass and golf, Ed's greatest devotion was to his family. He was a loving father to his children, Dale Poe and partner Lori Miles White of Wake Forest, NC, and April Poe Craig and husband Bill Craig of Morrisville, NC. His grandchildren, Christopher Poe and wife Anna Poe of Indianapolis, IN, Danielle Poe of Indianapolis, IN, Emily Poe of Lexington, KY, Sean and Madison Craig of Morrisville, NC, were the pride of his life, and he cherished his time with his great-grandsons, Liam Poe and Noah Theaker. Ed also shared his home and heart with his treasured cats, Mustang Sally and Molly, who were his faithful companions.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, at 1:00 PM at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Elk Creek, VA at 418 Comers Rock Rd, Elk Creek, VA. Lunch will be provided after the service in the fellowship hall.
Arrangements are by Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Virginia, is serving the Poe family.
