Elaine Muriel Vater Dillon, 92,of Independence, died Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Carrington Place in Wytheville, VA.
She was born in Boston, M ass. on October 13, 1925 to Harriet Edna (Wood) and William Melvin Harroun.

She was also preceded in death by her husbands John Norman Vater and John "Red" Dillon; son Keith E, Vater; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters..

Surviving are children: E. Audrey (Paul) Romano of N.H.,Sandra (Larry) Grabman and Wayne (Carrie) Vater of Galax, and Heidi Cole of N.C.; grandchildren; Debbie, Bryan, Dianne, Jenny, Paola, Marylin, Luis, Melissa, Bradley, Daniel, Chris, Joshua and Brittiany; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; two sisters; Connie Brink of Maine and Dorothy Woodman of Mass .; and several nieces and nephews.

A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence with Bradley Vater officiating. If desired in lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimers Assoc. would be appreciated. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Independence, VA
