Obituary

Eunice Thelma Brewer Ward, age, 86, of Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC.  Mrs. Ward was born on August 16, 1936, in Independence, VA to Johnny Cone and Brida Elizabeth Phipps Brewer.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fred Ward.

Mrs. Ward will be remembered as a sweet mother who loved providing for her family especially her grandchildren.  She was a dedicated care giver who lovingly cared for her mother and husband until their deaths.  She was a true-hearted neighbor who delighted in doing for others.  It was not uncommon to find her opening her home to anybody who was in need.  Whether it was an extended family member or a friend of a friend, anybody needing a roof was welcomed at the Ward home.  Friends, family and neighbors in need of transportation were always able to find a ride with Mrs. Ward.  While she found her greatest joy in providing for others, she was an avid gardener who had a special talent and affinity for growing roses.  Mrs. Ward was a self-taught rock mason, designing and creating her own stone fireplace.  She found the experience so rewarding, she eventually completed a stone fence and a river-rock wishing well at her home.  She was no stranger to hard work!

Mrs. Ward is survived by two daughters, Joyce and David Price and Tora Brooks all of Creston, NC; one son, Kenneth and Linda Ward of West Jefferson, NC; one sister, Gardella Brewer Sexton of Independence, VA; one brother, Everette Lee Brewer of Independence, VA; three grandchildren, Octavia Jewell, Reeves Ward, and Douglas Winebarger; two great grandchildren, Nicolas Jewell and Bentley Winebarger.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Grubbs Chapel Cemetery in the Grubb's Chapel Community of Independence, VA.  Family members will be officiating.  Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions by be made to the Grubb's Chapel Cemetery Fund.
