Eva Cox Mundy, age 86, of Independence, VA passed away at her home on Sunday, June 18, 2023.  She was born in Grayson County on November 15, 1936, to Summitt and Ruby Lynn Austin Cox.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William "JW" Mundy, her son, John Mundy, son-in-law, Tommy Michael Price, and one sister and one brother.

Eva will be remembered as lady of remarkable class and dignity.  She was always dressed in the latest of fashions with hair and makeup receiving much attention.  Even while confined to a nursing home bed during rehabilitation, her major concern was her appearance.  Her children remember her as a celebrated cook always having food ready at a moments' notice.  She was an excellent housekeeper who always took an interest in her home.   A family vacation never began until Eva had inspected the prospective hotel or motel.  If it did not meet her approval, then it was on to the next! This inspection always began following the 8-hour drive to the beach with four children eager to gain freedom from the confines of the car.  Her cornbread remains unsurpassed as a family favorite!

Eva is survived her two daughters, Janet Lynn Mundy and Rick Tulbert of Independence, VA and Terry Mundy Price of Elk Creek, VA; one son, James "Mitch" Mundy of Independence; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Mundy of Independence, VA; grandchildren, Chad, Tonja, Casey, and Zach; great-grandchildren, Laura, Hoke, Hannah, Dusty, Collins, and Carter; great-great-grandchildren, Brinlynne and Hux; one sister, Elaine Cox Kirk of Independence, VA; special niece, June Shaw of Galax, Virginia; special friends, Bobby Duncan and Jerry Parsons.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with burial to immediately follow at sunset at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Independence.  The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
