Evelyn Thompson Castevens, age 87, of Independence, Virginia, passed away on February 15, 2024, at Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. Miss Castevens was born on September 26, 1937, to the late Fawnie and Elsie Thompson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, William Byrd Stevenson.

Evelyn loved her family dearly and enjoyed planting flowers. She also opened the door to her home offering help to those needing a welcoming place to stay. She was very kind hearted and loved by all that knew her.

Mrs. Castevens is survived by two sons, Allen Byrd Stevenson of Independence, VA, and William Anthony Stevenson of Cripple Creek, VA; one brother, Hugh Thompson of NC; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Tim Crockett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Fuquay Varina, NC. Reins~Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA, is serving the Stevenson family.
