Fred Boyce Jones, age 87, of Elk Creek, VA, passed away on February 14, 2023, at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.  He was born on November 13, 1935, in Wythe County to Paul Lawrence Jones Sr. and Ana Woodruff Jones.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lee Jones and Bertha Hammond Jones; and a brother, P. L. Jones Jr.

Fred was a life-long dairy and beef cattle farmer.  He was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Elk Creek Rescue Squad and Elk Creek Fire Department.  He served on the boards of Grayson National Bank and the Southern States Cooperative. He was elected to the Grayson Soil and Water Conservation District of Elk Creek.  In his leisure he enjoyed playing Rook.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Deanna Mays Jones of the home; one daughter,  Debbie Jones Fisher and husband, Pat of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Roxie Jones of Elk Creek, VA; Randall Jones and wife, Misty of Bald Head Island, NC; three grandchildren, Cara McAllister Ashby and husband, Steve of Mt. Pleasant, NC; Amy McAllister and husband, Thomas of Charlotte, NC; Brittany O'Bannon and husband, John, of Haymarket, VA; great grandchildren, Emma Ashby, Dean Ashby, Harper Shook, Thomas Shook, Jr, Norrie O'Bannon, Keegan O'Bannon and Virginia O'Bannon; son, not by blood, Harold Hale and wife, Mary Ann of Winston-Salem, NC; great niece, Elizabeth Hash and husband, Ty Hash of Elk Creek, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 17, at 2:00 PM at the Lebanon United Methodist Church with Pastor, the Rev. Gleasanna Dixon and the Rev. John Duvall officiating.  There will be no visitation. Burial will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery.
