Mr. Garnett Lester Blackburn, age 92, of Independence, Virginia, died on Sunday, November 11, 2019 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin in Yadkinville, NC.  He was born on April 16, 1927 in Rugby, Virginia to Elisha and Fanny Elizabeth Baker Blackburn.  He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Blackburn and was the widower of Virginia L. Blackburn.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army.

He is survived by two special cousins, Shirley and Charlie Jones of Warrensville, NC and Randy Jones of Grassy Creek, NC.  Several other cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dusty Reedy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cole Cemetery in Whitetop, Virginia
