Gary Dean
Clawson
September 12, 1957 — May 7, 2025
Gary Dean Clawson, age 67, of Grassy Creek, NC passed away at his home on the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025. Gary was born in West Grove, PA on September 12, 1957, to Roy Dean and Eldora Lewis Clawson.
Gary began his working career by creating a landscaping operation which proved successful enough that he sold it to become a self-employed retail merchant. He with his wife by his side became the owners and operators of the State Line Store in the Grassy Creek Community, where Gary used his mechanic skills to operate the garage at the store. The store became a focal point of the Grassy Creek Community. Gary was involved in his neighborhood and was always willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. As an avid sponsor of the Tunnels 2 Towers Foundation, he was an unapologetic supporter for disabled veterans, policemen, fireman, and other public servants. He was an avid supporter of local sports and was never quiet about it! Armed with his cowbell in hand, he became a fixture at local football games. Gary was a history buff who especially enjoyed Civil War history. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a grill master who loved a fish-fry and equally enjoyed creating his special barbeque. Gary had an unwavering love for his family. He remained close with his immediate and extended family and always kept communication open regardless of the miles separating them. He was a dedicated, faithful, loving husband to his wife of 48 years. He was always supportive and dedicated to his boys. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather. Words fail to express the joy that his grandchildren brought to him. Gary lived his life dedicated to God, Country, and family. While the family and community are devastated at this great loss, they take comfort that he has gained his rest and has realized the joys of heaven. For many years his faith which was nurtured at his church, but now it has become reality for him!
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, John, and his brother-in-law, Steve Greene. He is survived by his wife, Betty Clawson of the home; two sons, Josh and Meghann Clawson of Creston, NC and Jeffrey Clawson of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren, Maggie and Holten Clawson of Creston; three sisters, Darlene Greene of Cherryville, NC, Janet and Larry Mishue of Kittrell, NC, and Wanda and Wayne Domkowski of Louisburg, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.
