Gladys Regina Parsons VanHoy, age 65, of Independence, VA passed away at her home on May 7, 2025.  She was born in Jefferson, NC on July 9, 1959, to Jackie Donald and Ada Louise Hash Parsons.

Regina will be greatly missed in the Independence community.  She was a friendly and familiar face to many during her years of service at the local "Quik Chek."  Regina never met a stranger and had a smile for everybody.  She was a loyal and trustworthy friend who earned the love and respect of many!  She was a champion in her love for animals and many "fur babies" benefited from her devotion and love.  As the baby sister to three brothers, she learned to be tough and could "hold her own" with anybody.  Yet, it often seemed that her heart was too big to fit into her body.  Anybody who had a friend in Regina, indeed had a friend!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Michael VanHoy in 1983.  As a 24-year-old widow, Regina persevered as she always did.  Rather than to collapse in her grief, she stood firm and tall and rose to face the challenges that lay ahead.

She is survived by her three brothers, Joseph Donald and Geneva Parsons of Elk Creek, VA, Jackie Ronald and Teresa Parsons of Troutdale, VA, and David H. and Amy Parsons of Mouth of Wilson, VA; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Memorial services will be conducted on Monday at 12:00 noon at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with speaker, D. David VanHoy officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
