Glenna Lee Walls, age 83, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, the Volney Community, died on Thursday, August 17, 2022, at the Francis Marion Manor is Marion, Virginia. She was born in Volney on February 18, 1939, to Gertie Mae Perkins and Chester Lee Walls. Glenna was a lifetime member of the Little Wilson United Methodist Church. She was a member of the 1957 graduating class of Virginia-Carolina High School. Following graduation, she was employed at the ACME Markets (American Foods) in the personnel Department in Baltimore, Maryland. She returned to Grayson County where she retired from TRW in Atkins, Virginia. She will be remembered for the things that she enjoyed most which include canning vegetables, fruits and jellies, cooking delicious homecooked fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, ham, cookies, brownies and her very special 7-Up pound cake which was always present at family birthdays. And, nobody will ever forget her giagantic "Williard Scott's Christmas Red Velvet cake- which was an annual Christmas dessert. Glenna was always interested in her family and friends and was good to visit when sickness or death came to her family. She was always willing to bring food to famly, friends, church dinners, fund raisers. In her younger years, she was a participant in a Powder Puff Derby where she took a second-place trophy. She was talented in quilting, crocheting, and sewing. She was a favorite among the "apple peelers" gathered annually around the apple butter kettle at the Grayson Highlands Fall Festival.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph Garl Walls, Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Robert "Bob" Coolidge; nephew, Elbert Lee Walls; great-nephew Louis Clark Charapich; and a special friend and mentor, Ginny Hanes of Baltimore, Maryland.
She is survived by her brother, Willie Ray Walls, of the home; sister-in-law, Rhonda Richardson Walls of Mouth of Wilson, VA; 2 nieces Cynthia and Chuck Collier of Newark, Delaware and Regenia Mark Charapich of Chilhowie, VA; nephews, Robert Lee Coolidge of Newark Delaware, Joseph G. Walls, Jr. and Amy of Mouth of Wilson, VA; great-nephew, Timothy Charapich; great niece, Kelly Charapich; great-nephews, Robert (RJ) Collier, Cody Collier (Lizzie) both of Delaware; great-great- Nephew, Landon Collier, of Newark Delaware; also surviving is her special classmate and friend, Nina Weaver, "the Osborne Girls", and all of her church family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Little Wilson United Methodist Church in Mouth of Wilson by Pastor, Mike Newman, Rev. Doug Halsey, and Rev. Bob Cheeks. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Little Wilson Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Wilson United Methodist Church or to the Little Wilson Cemetery.
