Obituary

It is with heaviest hearts that we announce Gloriana Joy McCormack, age 55, of Galax, VA unexpectedly passed away on February 1, 2026. Born in Maryland on December 24,1970 to Gary and Gloria Rhudy, she lived a very adventurous and impactful life. Gloriana grew up in Independence, VA and although her life let her travel the world she remained the kind, caring and full of love woman that her town helped her grow into.

Gloriana graduated from Independence High School in 1989, went on to enlist in the US Army in October of 1992 and was honorably discharged in 2011. She loved art and loved the sports she participated in, loved watching the Tarheels playing basketball with her father. She loved her service dogs, Jabari and Chiyo, that helped her live independently after being discharged from the military. She was passionate about helping veterans receive their due recognition, awards, and assistance, leading her to a civilian position with the USMC awards services after she was discharged from the Army.

Gloriana was known for her fierce love, loyalty, and protection for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Known to always be there no matter what the issue was or how to help whether it was a physical ailment or emotional, Gloriana knew what to do. She would help her friends without asking anything of them. She would do the same for her own children and their friends as well. Gloriana had a kind, loving heart so full of care to give that losing her has left an indescribable emptiness within her loved ones. The only consolation is she would not want any of her family to feel that way. To remember her love and warmth, that she is whole and happy again with her father Gary still guiding and protecting those she loved fiercely.

Gloriana is survived by her children, Alana McCormack, Asia Wallace and her son-in-law Bradley Wallace, along with her grandchildren, Maribel Wallace and Brantley Wallace. She is also survived by her sisters Pamela Walker of York, SC, Jill Minor of Bristol, VA, Sharon Conroy of Dunkirk, NY and Angel Robey of Eldersburg, MD along with her brother Blake Rhudy of Wilson, NC and her mother, Gloria Rhudy of Independence, VA. She has 10 nieces and nephews, and 3 additional grandbabies through them she loved just as much. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary B. Rhudy.

The family will be holding a service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA on Tuesday, March 10. Visitation will begin at 1PM and the service will begin at 2PM.
