Gordon Dan Sumner, age 50, of Hillsville, Virginia passed away on February 7, 2023, at the Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina.  He was born on June 29, 1972, in Sparta, NC to L. Roe Dan and Carolyn Funk Sumner. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Elmo Sumner.

Gordon loved being outdoors- especially hunting and fishing.  He was described by his father as a gift from God.  He was an avid reader enjoying historical, military, and local history. He enjoyed visiting historical sites, the beach and the mountains.  He was a collector of knives and often visited Smokey Mountain Knife Works. He also enjoyed Bible study. He loved eating, especially when a buffet was involved!

He is survived by his father and stepmother, L. Roe Dan and Donna Sumner of Independence, VA; two uncles, Kermon and Shirley Sumner of Independence and Clinton and Eva Funk of Virginia; two aunts, Kay Padgett of Hillsville and Anna Mae Sumner of Galax; cousins, Tammy Wilson, Kevin Sumner, Scott Sumner, Nelson Sumner, Mark Padgett, Elsa Ray Felts.  He is also survived by his other half, Pam Robbins, and his canine companions, Jack and Jill.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derek Cowan, Rev. Jeremy Farley and speaker, Clinton Funk officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  The burial will follow in the Flat Rock Cemetery in Independence.
