Greely Chapman "Chap" Austin, age, 79, of the Baywood Community died on Friday evening at the Grayson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, VA.  He was born in Grayson County on June 14, 1943, to Greely Oren and Minnie Clyde Rutherford Austin.  He was employed many years with the Galax City Water Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Janet Louise Austin; son, Michael Chatman Austin.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patti Lynn and Robert Shelby of Georgia; four grandchildren, Crystal Michelle and Gary Alderman, Amy Leann Frix, Alexus Renae Shelby and Robert Dylan Shelby all of Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Michael Alderman, Beau Alderman and Brayden Shelby all of Georgia; one nephew, Danny Mayes of Galax, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted at Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church in Baywood, VA on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM. The pastor, Elder James Wyatt and Bro. Sam Pierce will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the church.  Burial will follow in the Galyean Cemetery in Baywood, VA.
