Hazel Denise Phipps- McMillian was born on January 20, 1986, to Randolph and Pauline Phipps. She transitioned from Earth to Glory on January 23, 2024, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA.  She was preceded in death by her brother Christopher Phipps, her paternal grandparents Crockett and Ella Phipps, her maternal grandparents Thomas Paul and Hazel Allen; two aunts, Inez Davis, and Renea Parsons; her bird, baby Bella Rose McMillian.

In 2006 the first love of Denise's life was born Keyshawn Phipps. In March 2010 Denise married Tracy McMillian. 2013 Denise was blessed with the second love of her life Jared Lee McMillian. In late 2020 to their surprise and the blessing of this Union came the 3rd love of her life her miracle baby Maecee Elizabeth McMillian.

Denise attended the Grayson County Schools and Graduated in 2004. Denise was President of her senior class, and the first African American to become Homecoming Queen at Grayson County High School. Denise attended King's College in Charlotte NC and graduated in 2005, later she attended Radford University in Radford VA.

Denise was often called our Songbird, she could sing, would sing, and didn't mind singing. In the summer of 2012, she was cast in the musical production of Beehive. Denise was a caregiver and worked for the Department of Social Services in Galax, VA.

Denise started her walk with Christ at Christian Unity House of Prayer for All people under the leadership of the Late Elder Wallace Price. Then she moved her membership to the McMillian Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Sue Green she was on the praise team and assisted with the youth department.

She leaves to cherish her memory her parents Randolph and Pauline Phipps of Independence, VA. Her daughter Maecee McMillian, her two sons Keyshawn Phipps, and Jared McMillian all of the home. A sister Ikeisha (Whit) Davis. Four Brothers Jerome (Crystal) Phipps, Stacey (Crissy) Phipps, Adrian (Megan) Davis, Jason (Crystal) Cureton. A Sister-in-law Leaann Phipps, four Aunts, Lawanda Phipps and Nathalia McKinney of Independence, VA, Lucinda (Duncan) Brown of Alto, GA., and Angela Brown of Roanoke, VA. One Uncle, Mickey Simpson of Toccoa, Georgia. 14 Nieces and Nephews, and 4 Great Nieces and Nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM with Elder Dayle McKinney and Bishop Sue Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from11:00 - 1:00 prior to the funeral service.
