Helen Lucille Johnson Young, age 90, of Troutdale, VA passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, 2025.  She was born in the Mouth of Wilson Community on Sept. 15, 1935, to Bruce and Fannie Irene Kilby Johnson.

Helen graduated from Virginia Carolina High School in 1954 and was married to Robert Young the same year.  She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She delighted in providing for her family and was no stranger to hard work.  She lived a life of honesty, simplicity, and integrity before her family setting an example of servanthood.  She was a dedicated Christian who brought her children up in the nurture of the church.  She unashamedly shared her faith at every opportunity.   For many years she was a Sunday School teacher at Troutdale Baptist Church. Helen was most comfortable outdoors.  She loved fishing and hunting as well as many aspects of farming.  She also loved working with special needs children as a teacher's assistant.  With her husband by her side, they opened Young's General Store in 1975 where they worked together for 24 years providing basic groceries and supplies for their community.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christy Campbell.

She is survived by husband of 71 years, Robert Young of the home; three daughters, Linda Young of the home, Diana and Bobby Campbell of Mouth of Wilson, VA; and Cindy Taylor of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one son, Rev. Rick and Debbie Young of Mouth of Wilson, VA; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Boyette and Rev. Rick Young officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Corinth Cemetery in Rugby, Virginia.
