Henry Lee Parks, age 82, of Independence, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his home. He was born on August 7, 1941, to the late Emmitt Walter and Mamie Bell Sexton Parks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Paige Rash Parks; one sister, Anna Mae Dunavan; four brothers, James, Carl, Junior, and Larry Parks; two great-granddaughters, Avery Halsey and Stormi Witherspoon.

Henry loved hunting, fishing, tinkering with small engine repair, junk trading, and carpentry work. He built numerous homes with his father, and he also built his own home. Henry's love for his family, particularly his four daughters and grandchildren, was infinite. Henry cherished his moments most when surrounded by family, whether it was a casual cookout or the festive gatherings during Christmas; these were the times he treasured above all else.

Henry is survived by his wife Myra Parks, of the home; four daughters, Debra and husband Earl Halsey of Atkins, VA, Donna Hash of Baywood, VA, Anita Tomlinson of Edgewater, FL, Susan and husband Darryl Pennington of Marion, VA; one son-in-law, Andy Witherspoon of Sugar Grove, VA; one stepdaughter, Amanda and Javier Macias of Independence, VA; one stepson, Joe Hoer of Galax, VA; three sisters: Thelma Russell of Galax, VA, Katherine Ross of Flatridge, VA, and Edith Russell of Galax, VA; a special friend, Lee Testerman of Independence, VA; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Carico officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Burton's Chapel Cemetery in Troutdale, VA. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Burton's Chapel Cemetery fund c/o Don Ross, 80 Glenwood Drive, Troutdale, VA 24378.

The family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice with special recognition to Wanda Wiles and Laken Phipps for all of their compassionate care during the sickness of Henry.  They also would like to acknowledge the exceptional care that he was given from his private caregivers, Sharon Williams and Stephanie Davis.
