Mcgrady
December 6, 1940 — June 4, 2022
Ira Kenneth McGrady, Sr. age, 81, of the Elk Creek Community of Grayson County, Virginia died at his home on Saturday morning, June 4, 2022. Mr. McGrady was born on December 6, 1940, to Ira Omar and Grace Lucille Blevins McGrady. He grew up in the Troutdale Community where he was given the nickname, "Satch," which he carried throughout his life. He attended Virginia Carolina High School and was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Checkpoint Charlie at the Berlin Wall. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 61 years and was a caring father who provided for his family. He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He will be remembered as an excellent marksman. He loved to reflect upon his many experiences with hunting trips to Pine Mountain. The many family members and friends who would gather for these trips would later come to be known as "The Pine Mountain Boys." He was a loyal and devoted friend and neighbor. He was celebrated in the Elk Creek community for his knowledge of gardening. He was especially revered for his prize-winning tomatoes and was often called upon by friends and neighbors to share his expertise of pruning tomato vines. He enjoyed a laugh with friends and found much joy in bringing laughter to others with his quick wit and humor. He retired after forty years of service with the Textron Corporation in Wythville, Virginia. Mr. McGrady joined the Grayson County VFW # 7726 in 1974. He delighted in saying "if I'm not here, I'll be somewhere."
Ira was preceded in death by his parents, and his three sisters, Cecile Ann McGrady, Betty Jane Grasso, and Wanda Tuell.
